Chelation Cured Desiree Jennings' Mercury Poisoning

by Heidi Stevenson

Crab The term chelation derives from the Greek word, chelè, which means claw. Chelation is clawlike in its ability to grasp and hold molecules. The term chelation derives from the Greek word, chelè, which means claw. Chelation is named for a clawlike ability to grasp and hold metal poisons for removal from the body.

Chelation has cured Desiree Jennings of the dystonia caused by a flu vaccination. As ever, the medical world denies both that she was injured by the vaccine and that she was cured. They use their usual canard: claiming that her illness was psychogenic, that is, they're saying it was all in her head.

Chelation is currently treated with scorn by the medical system, in spite of the fact that it is routinely used to detox lead, and at least one method is known to be equally as effective in removing other heavy metals, including iron, mercury, cadmium, and lead. The reason for this disconnect is claims that chelation has cured autism by removing mercury. To admit that autism can be cured in this manner would be to acknowledge a history of deceit by the agencies responsible for protecting health, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and the Institute of Medicine (IOM).

It's so easy to blame the victim for an illness. Claim the person is mentally ill. Who's to prove otherwise? The bottom line here is that you'll have to judge for yourself. Below this article is an audio of an interview with the doctor who did the chelation on Desiree and a video of her during her illness. (After viewing it, I suggest that you try to duplicate her movements—and ask yourself if someone faking dystonia would admit to being able to run or walk backwards.)

Desiree Jennings' Cure

Desiree Jennings went to Dr. Rash Rashid A. Buttar, doctor of osteopathy, for chelation therapy. He is famous for treating many autistic children with remarkable results, many of them returning to normal or near-normal. He uses more than one method, DMPS and DMSA, and he used other things on her, including a natural antiviral agent and antioxidants. The result was remarkable, with Desiree returning to normal or near-normal within a couple of days.

Dr. Buttar, who serves as vice chair on the American Board of Clinical Metal Toxicology, initiated the use of DMPS chelation in autistic children when his own child didn't respond to DMSA. His son, Abid, who had lost all speech, was speaking again in five months, and returned to his original rapid development prior to thimerosal poisoning from vaccinations.

Parents have reported a huge array of improvements in their children after undergoing mercury detoxification by Dr. Buttar, including better growth rates, increases in affection and socialization, more appropriate response behavior, and great increases in verbal skills.

There are many variables in treating mercury-poisoned people with chelation, not least of which may simply be individuality. Length of time a person has suffered may be a significant factor, as the mercury may be more deeply held in tissues, thus less accessible to DMSA chelation.

DMSA and DMPS

Caveat

Chelation therapy using DMSA and DMPS is not a natural therapy. Although often hyped as such, the fact is that these are chemicals that do not occur in nature. Like any other drug, there is a range of effects. Unlike most, though, these drugs carry the potential of cure, rather than simply suppressing symptoms, which makes them exception in the medical lexicon. Nonetheless, these treatments need to be undertaken seriously, with recognition of the potential for harmful effects. Considering the damage that heavy metal poisoning can do and the potential for genuine cure with DMSA and DMPS, these risks are relatively minor. Nonetheless, they do exist, and you should be aware of them.

DMPS

DMPS is a sodium salt of 2,3-dimercapto-1-propane sulfonic acid. It's not considered mutagenic, teratogenic, or carcinogenic. It's most effective for chelating zinc and copper. Therefore, if using it for mercury chelation, it's very important to supplement these two metals. The most common reactions are allergy and skin rashes. Caution must be exercised when given intravenously, as it can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure.

DMPS must never be used in anyone with amalgam dental fillings. DMPS is found in saliva, and likely pulls large amounts of mercury from fillings, with the potential of causing seizures, irregular heart beat, or fatigue. These are life-threatening concerns.

DMSA

DMSA is meso-2,3-dimercaptosuccinic acid. It is given orally, and can penetrate brain cells. It does not, though, appear to be as effective as DMPS for completely removing mercury from the body. It doesn't stay in the body as long as DMPS and it's slower acting. Nonetheless, it does appear to play an important role in medical detoxing with its ability to draw heavy metals from cells that DMPS cannot.

For a personal account of DMSA-DMPS chelation, read Chelating My Way Out of the Darkness.

Other Chelating Agents

There are natural chelating agents, with significantly greater safety than DMPS and DMSA. Their efficacy and speed, though, cannot match the chemical-drug approach. These include chlorella and cilantro.

A Final Word

It's important to note that autistic children do not all respond as well to chelation, and that many who do respond well also require other approaches. Ones that have been reported as being of good effect include a gluten-free casein-free (GFCF) diet and homeopathy, among others. Watch How to Help a Child With Autism for more information.

Chelation, when used appropriately, can mean the difference between a life-destroying illness and good health. It can, in some cases, such as Desiree Jennings, be a virtual magic bullet. However, the longer the time between heavy metal intoxication and chelation treatment, the less effective the results. Heavy metals do permanent damage to the body, brain, and nerves.

It should be inconceivable that our medical system and agencies don't even support research into mercury chelation for autistic children. Sadly, that's the way it is. A combination of inability to acknowledge past mistakes, career-building choices, and what amounts to payoffs from the vaccine industry—also known as Big Pharma—have stood in the way of any genuine research that might make the connection between mercury-laden thimerosal in vaccinations, along with other medical products, and autism.

Fortunately, there has been excellent research done by and through funding of organizations founded and operated by people with autistic children. They have made the connection, and they have found ways to treat their children. Every step of the way, though, they've had to fight a system that's clearly set up against them.
