Medical Journal Wants to Limit Right of Women to Home BirthsThe pace of modern medicine's intrusion into our lives is accelerating. Women are losing the right to home births, and all of us are losing the right to choose our healthcare.by Heidi Stevenson31 July 2010
Mainstream medicine continues to press for total control over your body with The Lancet's editorial stating that women of high-risk pregnancies do not have the right to choose home birth.(1) Referencing the recent deeply flawed study that claims three times more deaths in home-birthed babies, they are using bogus documentation to support their interest in forcing their medicine, along with their fees, on us. This is happening in the face of a higher maternal death rate in California than in Bosnia! Modern medicine is insinuating itself into every aspect of life, and doing so with increasing force, inaccuracy, and slander of alternative therapies:
It redefines normal health as disease or pre-disease—and then pushes toxic drugs, sometimes even causing the disease they're supposedly preventing, as in the case of bisphosphonates for osteoporosis.
It pushes, and even forces, its treatments on people even when they don't want it, as in vaccinations and so-called mental health drugs, like antipsychotics. It attacks alternatives with the overweening claim that they are "unproven", in spite of the fact that they avoid doing honest research on them. They attempt to force alternatives into the same mold as their own modalities, as if their way of looking at health is the only one possible. They do not put their treatments to the same test that they demand in alternatives, such as not testing vaccines for whether they prevent disease, but rather only for antibodies in the blood. It defines symptoms as the disease itself, and seems to think that symptom suppression is equivalent to cure. How often are parents told to give their child something to reduce a routine fever, in spite of the obvious and well-known fact that fever is one of the body's primary methods for fighting disease? (Please don't try to suggest that doctors no longer do that. I've heard too many parents report it.) Worst of all, though, is its encroachment into our lives, even to the point of presuming to force itself on us—and make us pay for it—whether we want it or not. In the US, midwives are under attack. In several states, they are illegal. These include Alabama, Connecticut, Washington DC, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Two states, Georgia and Hawaii, technically allow midwifery, but refuse to license the practice. In the rest of the 50 states, midwifery's status is a bit muddled. They may be allowed to practice, but there is no method of licensure.(2) The pattern of taking over people's right to the healthcare of their choice is presumptuous and patronizing in the extreme. More important, though, is that it strikes at the very core of our right to the integrity of our own bodies and minds. Your right to determine what sort of treatment you'll receive is being undermined day by day. Where will it end?
The technology already exists to track your compliance in taking prescribed drugs. How long do you think it will be until doctors will suggest that they should be allowed to force you to take any drug they prescribe or submit to surgery? The FDA says you have no right to determine what you eat or to pursue health. They are delivering the people over to agribusiness to serve as consumers of the crap that is posing as food and destroying health. Agribusiness delivers a crop of sick people to Big Pharma and Big Medicine each year. And Big Medicine is acting to assure that you have no choice but to use and buy their products, whatever they may be.
