GM Crops to Enter UK: The People's Will Be Damned! The fanatical press by Agribusiness to plant GM crops over every square inch of the earth has just moved closer to its goals. The UK and EU have no interest in their citizens' desires.by Heidi Stevenson7 February 2011

In the UK, the people are strongly against genetically modified (GM) foods. GM growing tests have been attempted, but the crops have consistently been destroyed by activists. As a result, such crop testing is now done secretly, and with extensive security around them. In response, the UK is completely ignoring the will of the people with plans to start importing animal feed contaminated with GM crops. The creation of the European Union has resulted in overrunning the people's will. The EU's Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health will vote tomorrow on loosening the zero tolerance policy towards importation of GM crops—and the UK is waiting with bated breath, planning to waste no time in opening Pandora's GM box. Only trace amounts will be allowed in at first, but as reported by The Guardian, the Director of GeneWatch UK, Helen Wallace, stated: The GM industry is pushing this proposal so it can wedge its foot firmly in the door and open up the British and European markets to food no one wants to eat. Its long term aim is to contaminate the food chain to such an extent that GM-free food will disappear. Supporters of GM are, of course, elated. They have been warning since 2009 that the zero-tolerance policy could result in a feed shortage for farm animals. However, it has not been a problem of any significance before now. Eve Mitchell, the Food Policy Adivsor at Food and Water Europe, dismisses the feed shortage claims: This is a solution without a problem, and the price could be very high indeed when unknown genetically modified organisms are let loose in the food chain. Who benefits? The United States, of course, which has gone for GM foods in a big way—and without the public's approval, just as in the EU. The UK stands to see the same sorts of problems that have arisen across the pond. Many of these GM soy and corn (maize) feed crops are resistant to many herbicides, which have resulted in super weeds in large areas of America. For some insane reason the EU believes that, because only one-tenth of one percent of the feed would contain GM crops, it's a non-issue. But, how much does it take? A single bit of pollen crossing with a non-GM plant can easily become millions of plant when its offspring survive because of their pesticide resistance. What will be the effects and costs in the UK? Apparently, we're about to find out. ***************************************************************************** *****************************************************************************
